# The Best Shops & Boutiques in Door County

Door County shopping is small, walkable, and refreshingly un-chain — independent bookstores, a homegrown clothing label, an eco-outfitter, and a lavender farm you can only reach by ferry. A few things worth knowing:

1. **Sturgeon Bay's Third Avenue and Fish Creek's Main Street** are the two densest strolls — several of these sit within a block of each other.
2. **Most stay open year-round or close to it** — unusual up here, where a lot shuts for winter. Still, confirm off-season hours.
3. **Fragrant Isle is a ferry ride away** on Washington Island; save it for an island day.

## 2. Novel Bay Booksellers — Best bookstore

The south end's marquee independent bookstore, women-owned and tightly curated, on Sturgeon Bay's Third Avenue — strong on fiction, kids' books, and Door County history. The kind of shop where a staff recommendation actually lands.

## 3. Ecology — Best outfitter
*Sister Bay*

Across from the Sister Bay marina, an eco-minded outfitter linking people with nature since 1972 — clothing in earth-friendly fabrics, footwear, jewelry, games, and a coffee bar downstairs.

In winter they rent cross-country skis and snowshoes, which tells you exactly the kind of shop it is.

An independent kitchen shop on Sturgeon Bay's Third Avenue — the place to find the gadget, pan, or gift you didn't know you needed, a few doors from Novel Bay for a tidy one-block stroll.

## 6. Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm — Best only-here stop
*Washington Island · $$*

A working lavender farm with a shop and cafe on Washington Island — rows of purple in the midsummer bloom, plus lavender everything in the store: soap, honey, lemonade, ice cream.

Save it for an island day, and try to line your visit up with the peak bloom in July. It's the most only-in-Door-County shop on this list.
