The Best Restaurants in Sturgeon Bay
Sturgeon Bay is the county seat, and it's the one Door County town that doesn't really slow down for winter. That gives its restaurant scene a different rhythm than the seasonal villages up the peninsula — more everyday spots that keep their lights on in January, less of the Memorial-Day-to-Labor-Day ramp-up you'll find in Fish Creek or Ephraim.
Most of the places below cluster in the historic Third Avenue district, so once you've found parking downtown you can walk between them. A few practical notes before you go:
- Sturgeon Bay is a solid base for off-season dining, since fewer places here close for the winter than in the villages up the peninsula.
- Third Avenue is the walkable core — park once and cover most of this list on foot.
- Donny's Glidden Lodge is the exception to the walkable rule — it's out on the lake side northeast of town, so plan on a short drive for dinner.
- Pair a Sturgeon Bay meal with an indoor stop from our rainy day guide if the weather turns.

Donny's Glidden Lodge is Sturgeon Bay's supper club, out on the quiet lake side northeast of town, and it runs the classic Door County rhythm: a relish tray to start, Friday fish fry, prime rib on weekends, all at the genre's unhurried, old-school pace. It's the one pick on this list you'll drive to rather than walk to from Third Avenue — that's the trade for a proper night out away from downtown.
Go on a Friday for the fish fry or a weekend for the prime rib, and settle in with a drink before the food arrives; nobody here is trying to turn your table. Call ahead on weekends, when the format draws a crowd, and check days before driving out in the off-season, when the schedule runs lighter.

Kitty O'Reilly's is the downtown Irish pub, right in the middle of Sturgeon Bay, built around a good pour and solid pub fare rather than a fussy menu. It's the easy pick when you want a beer and something familiar to eat — not a culinary destination, and it doesn't try to be one.
It slots neatly into a Third Avenue walk: park once, browse the shops, and end up here. It's open year-round, which makes it a reliable call in the off-season.

Scaturo's Baking Co. & Cafe is the downtown morning stop: coffee, fresh-baked goods, and breakfast or lunch under one roof, so you're not choosing between a bakery and a sit-down meal. It's open year-round, which counts for a lot in a county where so much closes by November.
Go early for first pick of what's come out of the oven, then walk it off along Third Avenue — the rest of downtown is right there.
A short list, on purpose
Three favorites cover the day here: a bakery-cafe morning, a downtown pub, and a supper club night. Sturgeon Bay's full directory runs much longer — browse /sturgeon-bay/restaurants/ for everything else that's open.
A tip for planning
Because Sturgeon Bay stays open and busy through the off-season, it's a good base if you're visiting outside peak summer — more of its kitchens are running through the winter months than you'll find in the seasonal villages up the peninsula. Check hours before you drive over, especially midweek in the colder months.
