Museums & History in Sturgeon Bay

• Door County Historical Museum

  Open Tue–Sat, May–mid-December; reduced winter days.

  The county's local-history museum, free and easy to spend an hour in — vintage firefighting gear, a recreated old-time street, and Door County stories, distinct from the Maritime Museum a few blocks away. A good stop with kids.

• Door County Maritime Museum

  Climb the tower first: the working-shipyard view explains Sturgeon Bay better than any exhibit. Then do the tug tour.

• Miller Art Museum

  Year-round; closed Sundays and for January changeovers.

  Door County's fine-art museum, free to visit, inside the Sturgeon Bay library. It holds the largest collection anywhere of work by Gerhard Miller, the county's most celebrated artist, and rotates contemporary shows through the rest of the year. Open year-round — a good rainy-day plan.

• The Farm

  Open daily ~Memorial Day weekend through mid-October.

  A living museum of rural America north of Sturgeon Bay, and a reliable hit with little kids — bottle-feed goat kids and lambs, watch chicks hatch, and wander pioneer log buildings and nature trails. Plan on a couple of hours.
