The Best Restaurants in Sister Bay
Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant is still Sister Bay's most recognizable table, goats on the roof and all, but it's no longer the whole story. The town's restaurant scene has real range now — fine dining with sunset views at Waterfront, a farm-to-table dinner house at Thyme, a steakhouse at CHOP, sushi and Friday fish fry at LURE, wood-fired pizza at Wild Tomato, a genuine supper club at Sister Bay Bowl, and a late-night standby at Husby's. These eight are the ones worth planning a meal around.

Analog Ice Cream and Coffee
Door County's oldest coffee shop by its own count, pouring Milwaukee-roasted Anodyne espresso in the middle of Sister Bay village since 1998. It opens at 6:30am with a homemade bakery (the cheddar chive scones have a following) and scoops Wisconsin ice cream, with vegan and gluten-free options on hand.

Boathouse On The Bay
A marina-front restaurant with a rooftop-style Fly Bridge Bar over the water. The lobster roll is the dish people specifically drive here for, alongside a full bar and regular live music through the season.
Brown Butter Bakeshop
Come for the rotating seasonal brioche pastries. Baker Tina Peters works from scratch in this Sister Bay shop (nothing from a mix), and the namesake brown butter turns up again in her housemade coffee syrups.
Carroll House Restaurant
This Sister Bay diner turns out more than 20,000 Old Fashion Waffles a year, including one stuffed with Door County cherries. A family breakfast-and-lunch spot on Bay Shore Drive since 1957, open about 7 to 2, so it's a morning plan.
CHOP
A steakhouse in the village center next to the Dorr Hotel, built around hand-cut, corn-fed Midwestern beef. The surf and turf pairs a filet with lobster or scallops, and the early-dining menu is a genuine deal before the dinner rush.
Door County Confectionery (Sister Bay)
Handmade chocolates and fudge, made in Door County for more than half a century. This Sister Bay sweet shop is one of four county locations; get the fudge or a Bear Paw (their take on a turtle).

Door County Ice Cream Factory & Sandwich Shoppe
Super-premium ice cream made on site in Al Mickelson's 1912 general store, with more than thirty flavors churned in-house and vintage Sister Bay photos on the walls. Order the Chipper: vanilla ice cream pressed between two chocolate chip cookies and rolled in more chips. There are made-to-order sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads too, but the ice cream is the reason to stop.
Dovetail Bar & Grill
A roadhouse bar and grill on Highway 57 outside the village core, with its own gas station and campground next door. The Dovetail Burger (two patties, bacon jam) and a Door County turkey sandwich with cherry compote lead a menu built for a quieter, off-the-beaten-path stop.
Ecology
Across from the Sister Bay marina, an eco-minded outfitter that's been linking people with nature since 1972 — clothing in earth-friendly fabrics, footwear, jewelry, games, and a downstairs coffee bar. In winter they rent cross-country skis and snowshoes.
Fat Belly
The name is fair warning. This tiny kitchen behind the Sister Bay go-kart track builds big, comforting bowls with a sushi-bar streak, and the Samurai Bowl is the one to come hungry for.

Happy Coffee
Co-owners Lilly Orozco and Juan Ornelas bought the former Skip Stone Coffee Roasters in 2024 and reopened it as happy coffee, pouring a house blend roasted by Kick Ash Coffee up in Ellison Bay. Orozco makes the syrups in house, so order the pecan latte.
Husby's Food & Spirits
Emma Husby opened this Sister Bay tavern in 1929, and it still stays open later than most of the peninsula. Out back, the open-air Garage grill turns out local whitefish tacos, with live music on summer weekends.
June’s Farmhouse
A coffee-and-wine bar at the south end of Sister Bay, open daily from 7 to 8, that pours Colectivo espresso in the morning and wine by evening. Order a savory galette from baker Elizabeth Galecke: the Rise & Shine, an egg-and-potato number with cheddar and walnut mustard, anchors the breakfast side.
LURE
A casual fine-dining room with a newly expanded bar, sushi, and a Friday fish fry that comes with a complimentary slice of cherry pie. The $34.95 early-dining menu is a good way into the kitchen without the full dinner price tag.
Northern Grill & Pub
A family-run Italian-American pub since 1997, with wood-fired-style pizza, lasagna, and Black Angus steaks in a rustic Northwoods dining room with a fireplace and an arcade for kids.
One Star Burgers & Dogs
The name is the joke: a burger stand cheeky enough to hand itself one star, working out of the Patio Motel and Drive-In in Sister Bay. Order the double cheeseburger with One Star sauce and fried onions, patties smashed to order, then chase it with the soft serve.
Pasta Vino
When you want a real plate of pasta in Sister Bay, this is the pick. The pasta and bread are made in house, and locally caught whitefish rounds out a menu of veal and seafood.
Peach Barn Farmhouse & Brewery
Sister Bay's first brewery, in a historic farmhouse and barn on the hill along Highway 42: self-brewed beer, gluten-free hard seltzers, and fresh peaches from the property's own trees each August. There's no kitchen, so bring your own food if you're staying a while.
Peninsula Kayak Company
First-come-first-served rentals if you want to go it alone, or book a guided tour to Eagle Bluff (a 200-foot rock face the company bills as Door County's largest) or the Clark Lake wetlands off Logan Creek.
Rad House Cafe
Order an espresso and a grab-and-go breakfast sandwich, then turn the kids loose. Rad House is a play cafe in the Country Walk Shops, a nut-free coffee spot in Sister Bay where little ones (ages 0 to 5) get a free play space while the grown-ups caffeinate.
Red Barn Biscuit Company
The biscuit does all the work here, fresh and hot out of the oven. Order it as the base of a breakfast sandwich, or let it moonlight as a cinnamon roll made from the same dough.
Romantiques
At the top of the Sister Bay hill, a curated mix of antiques and vintage alongside jewelry, art, and a few finds you didn't come in for — the browsable, treasure-hunt end of the antiques spectrum rather than the formal-estate end. Worth a stop on the way through town.
Roots Inn & Kitchen
The kitchen's whole idea is vegan "comfort food" with real flavor: plant-based cooking alongside locally raised meats from area farms. On Monday and Tuesday evenings the space becomes Lola's Kitchen, the Filipino pop-up Owen Alabado named for his grandmother, and the chicken adobo and pork lumpia are the reason to come. It runs out of a historic inn in downtown Sister Bay.
SAVOR Barbeque - Grill - Taphouse
A fast-casual BBQ smokehouse and taphouse that expanded into its current, larger home in spring 2026. Expect hand-sliced brisket, ribs, and a pet-friendly patio with Friday afternoon live music in season.

Cherries are the whole operation here. If you're only buying one pie in Door County, this is the place.
Sister Bay Bowl
The best supper club in the county and it has a bowling alley in it. Get the lake perch, sweet muddled old fashioned, and a lane.
Sister Bay Waterfront Park
Sand beach, a swim pier, a performance pavilion with free summer concerts, and a boardwalk right in the middle of downtown. You can watch the sunset here and be back at a restaurant table in five minutes.

The only town where the beach, the marina, and lunch are all a two-minute walk apart. Fall Fest takes it over each October.
Stabbur Beer Garden at Al Johnson's
The outdoor beer garden beside Al Johnson's, set on the same downtown grounds where the goats graze on the restaurant's famous sod roof. Twenty rotating taps lean Wisconsin craft, and the walk-up KöK kitchen keeps the picnic tables fed; order Rolf's Bloody Mary, built on Al Johnson's own tomato dill soup recipe.
Steampunk Espresso Bar
The steampunk name is no gimmick: it's a themed cafe and deli on Bay Shore Drive, with a curated record collection setting the mood alongside the espresso. Order the Steampunk latte, the sweet-and-salty signature, and build lunch around the deli sandwiches and soup of the day.
Sweetlana's Gelato & Coffee
This Sister Bay shop across from Waterfront Park makes its own small-batch gelato and pours coffee to go with it. Order the non-dairy raspberry mango.
The Alley Bar
The Alley is the seasonal patio bar on the north side of Sister Bay Bowl, the Willems family's supper club that has been rolling on the same downtown corner for 75 years. Pull up outside facing Highway 42 for cocktails al fresco and live music on some nights.
The Cleat
A dock-and-dine spot right on the Green Bay shoreline, on a site that spent 44 years as JJ's La Puerta before reopening as The Cleat in 2025. Expect fish tacos, cheesy nachos, and a full tequila menu, with an outdoor bar just steps from the water and dock access for boaters.
Thyme Restaurant, Catering & Market
A farm-to-table dinner house on Highway 57 with a seasonal, locally sourced menu: lemon-rosemary whipped ricotta, braised beef short rib, and a hand-rolled pasta program. It sits alongside its sister wine bar, Twelve Eleven, and guests can carry a glass between the two.
Twelve Eleven Wine Bar + Provisions
The wine-bar sibling to Thyme next door, named for the San Francisco apartment where owners Tim Raduenz and Garret Torgerson once lived. Order a glass of the namesake label and a plate of cheese and charcuterie, then carry it out to the patio and the fire pits.
